Reeling from the outcome of the election? Want to learn how to organize and lobby elected officials, even those who may be hostile to your cause?

Please join JVP Philly on Sunday, December 4th from 1-3 pm for our first ever legislative training event! This session will be useful to activists involved in any kind of social justice work.

Hannah Sassaman, Policy Director of the Media Mobilizing Project, and Alana Krivo-Kaufman, JVP’s East Coast Regional Organizer, will lead a Lobbying for Justice training. Drawing upon successful examples in the Philadelphia area, they will discuss how direct advocacy with elected officials (City Council, State Senate, Congress, and more) can help win campaigns. They will also discuss how to adapt lobbying efforts in light of the impending Trump presidency.

Hannah Sassaman – MMP Policy Director

Hannah is a nationally recognized organizer for media justice. Hannah came to MMP as a volunteer, working on grassroots fundraising, and now serves as the Policy Director of the organization. As the Campaign Director at the Prometheus Radio Project, Hannah helped lead the grassroots organizing and legislative strategy that resulted in the passage of the Local Community Radio Act – a bill that opened up the FM dial to thousands more community radio stations nationwide. Hannah led the CAP Comcast campaign – focused on holding Comcast accountable to poor and working people in Philadelphia and beyond. Hannah is a member of the Board of Directors of Allied Media Projects and at Fight for the Future; she is a trustee at the Valentine Foundation, the mom of incredible children Sara Bela Sassaman Marcus and Abigail Rose Sassaman Marcus, and the partner of brilliant community programmer Josh Marcus.

Alana Krivo-Kaufman – JVP Regional Organizer

Alana got her first taste of organizing as a Reform youth leader in Columbus, Ohio. After rabble-rousing for racial justice for ten years, from campus to synagogues, and from 4th grade Talmud study to legislative chambers, she's overjoyed to make transformative change with JVP’s brilliant and bold East Coast chapters. She loves belly-laughter, movement maps, and meeting new people.

Please let us know if you need on-site child care and will try to provide this service.
