In the summer of 2014, Black-Palestinian solidarity emerged into the mainstream after the police killing of unarmed Black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. As protests in Ferguson reached fever pitch and images of Israel's latest assault on Gaza simultaneously filled the airwaves, Palestinians sent protestors in Ferguson both messages of support and practical advice on how to deal with tear gas inhalation. In response, protestors in Ferguson sent images and messages back, and waved Palestinian flags at demonstrations. Notwithstanding this most recent and visible example of Black-Palestinian solidarity, connections between the two struggles were drawn much earlier in time.
